James Heimer: Ink Creep
Aug 1, 2026 – Oct 30, 2026
Post Haste is proud to announce Ink Creep, a retrospective of Philadelphia-based illustrator James Heimer's artwork, chronicling his hand-screened personal projects and client collaborations over the last decade. James Heimer is an illustrator, printmaker, and educator. He loves blotted lines, hardboiled crime and sci-fi paperbacks, and the grit and grime of hand printing. He earned a BFA in Illustration from The University of the Arts in 2004 and currently lives and works in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. He has held teaching positions at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) and is currently a professor of illustration at Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. Heimer's illustration clients include The Boston Globe, Hopeless Records, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, and The New Yorker. His poster work has been exhibited at The Museum of Design Atlanta, Drexel University, Civilian Art Projects, and was featured in “Dirty Fingernails” from Rockport Publishers. His images have received recognition from publications including 3x3, American Illustration,The New York Times Year in Illustration, and Thrillist. Heimer’s ongoing project, The Matinee Idle, is a print newsletter published in weekly installments every October. Spurred on by a love of mid 20th century horror films and distaste for streaming, he collates broadcast television listings into a handy guide that features capsule reviews and artwork informed by the aesthetics of drive-in newspaper ads, punk fanzines, and the kind of newsletter an elderly relative might receive if they indulged in model railroads or stamp collecting. The publication is then reproduced on a photocopier and delivered to a devoted list of subscribers via postal mail. The month culminates with an in- person event in which Heimer distributes the final issue of the year and talks movies while sitting in a cardboard newspaper stand. Subscriptions open every September.
